Advice for parents

The equipment
The equipment required varies depending on the activity.
  • Generally, a helmet, goggles and sun cream are essential.
  • Wearing a helmet is not always compulsory but is strongly recommended for all winter sports.
  • However, it is compulsory for activities such as snowboarding, competitive skiing and freestyle skiing, as well as for certain protective equipment such as back protection.

If you are unsure which skis or snowboard to choose, please specify the exact activity when hiring your equipment.

For snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and ski touring, please wear a three-layer system:
  • a breathable base layer,
  • a fleece jacket,
  • a windproof jacket
Don’t forget
  • You must bring your course card (printed or digital) to all sessions and present it to the instructor at the start of each lesson.
  • As it is issued in your name, it must not be lent to anyone else.
  • Punctuality at the meeting point is important and appreciated by all participants.
  • A ski pass is not included in the course fee (unless otherwise stated). Please remember to purchase one in advance.
  • Courses of 5 or 6 days must be taken on consecutive days.
Important
  • Group lessons & courses (in alpine skiing, snowboarding, Team Rider, freestyle skiing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing) require a minimum of 4 participants, throughout the season.
To allow time for any last-minute bookings to complete the group, we wait until the day before the course starts to ensure that the minimum number of participants has been reached.
If fewer than 4 participants are registered by that time, the course cannot go ahead.
Should this happen, we will contact you the day before the course starts to offer an alternative solution or, where applicable, cancel your booking for these lessons and issue a full refund for them.
  • Weather conditions, ski lift breakdowns, or other unforeseen circumstances are beyond the control of esf.
  • In the event of lessons being cancelled for reasons beyond our control, no refund will be issued.
  • esf Avoriaz accepts no liability for any personal injury or property damage sustained by participants.

Get a ski pass

Both children and adults need a ski pass to take part in esf lessons.
  • The ski pass is free for children under 5. However, you must collect a free ski pass from the ski lift ticket offices, presenting the child’s ID.
  • No ski pass is required for cross-country skiing lessons or snowshoeing walks.
  • Skipasses can be purchased at the ski lift ticket offices or online via their website.

Professional Indemnity Insurance for esf Avoriaz

esf Avoriaz has taken out Professional Indemnity Insurance (PI) which covers its clients for any damage they may cause to a third party while under the instructor’s supervision.

Please note that this insurance does not cover costs that esf Avoriaz clients may have to bear themselves in the event of an accident, such as medical expenses, damage to or theft of skis, or unused ski lift passes.

For this reason, esf Avoriaz recommends that clients ensure they are adequately covered, or take out appropriate insurance, so they can enjoy their skiing holiday with complete peace of mind.
